About Joyce BorlandBorn in Dumbarton, and still living in the area, it followed that the influence of the Colourists of the Glasgow School of Art would be a major inspiration in the development of Joyce Borland's style. Tutored at this Institute by Pete Howson, Neil Macdonald and Norrie Kirkham, she has specialised in the tonality of landscapes mainly in East and West Scotland. Joyce is an elected member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists and the Paisley Art Institute and her works have been exhibited by the Royal Glasgow Institute, The Scottish Artists and Artist Craftsmen in Edinburgh. Joyce enjoys working outdoors at home and abroad, and prefers to work in acrylics or water-based mediums using strong colours and bold palette knife and brushwork. She has won many prizes, including the Barclay Lennie Award at Glasgow Society of Women Artists, MacRoberts Open Prize at Art Exposure Gallery, Glasgow, Inverbeg Trophy at Helensburgh Art Club and the Gregor Ian Smith Prize at Bearsden Art Club and a London Finalist for a number of years in the Laing Art Competition.
