AN EXHIBITION of artwork inspired by the Scotish outdoors is set to go on
display at a Stirlingshire art gallery, writes Henry Ainslie.
Artist Luci Maclaren's first solo show in Scotland will display a selection of
her work on the subjects which are her great loves - shooting, hillwalking
and sailing.
The 34-year-old painter returned to Scotland only recently, having spent
much of her life in Los Angeles in pursuit of her artistic dreams.
In the Californian sun she says she was able to "open her mind" in a
different art scene, and she says the experience enabled her to grow up
as a person as well as an artist.
Now Luci is back in her native Scotland, she has taken full advantage of
the opportunities to capture the countrys stunning scenery, natural heritage
and rural life in her work.
Luci said of her painting: "My eye has always been drawn to people and
their movement when out for the day on a shoot, be that the interaction
with each other or the animals. And through my land and seascapes, I try
to extend my love of our Scottish outdoors in every stroke." Luci's work
principally in oils using brush or palette knife, and the Ealain Galleryin
Drymen, where her work will be displayed, say that her paintings are full
of the type of freedom and self expression everyone associates with the
Scottish countryside.
The month long exhibition of Luci Maclarens work will be staged at the
Ealain Gallery 36-42 Main Street, Drymen, from March 28 until April 26,
an opening ceremony will take place at 2pm on Sunday, March 28.

Overseen by Stirling husband and wife team Cameron and June McCann,
Ealain Gallery has worked to promote the artists on its books through a
range of exhibitions, including private parties and corporate events.

A traditional high street gallery is a bit of departure for them but
they are hoping it will prove successful when it opens on Drymen’s Main
Street on November 15.

June said of the new venture: “This will become our permanent base, where we will have changing exhibitions.”

And hoping to capitalise on Drymen’s place at the heart of the
national park, she added: “Alongside this, we will have a gift shop
with something for everyone, and a whisky gallery where we will host
master classes and tastings.”

Still intending to get their favourite artists’ work out and about
though, Ealain Gallery intends to continue with its programme of
exhibitions held around the country.

The latest of these gets under way from Sunday, November 2, in the MacRobert at Stirling University.

The first exhibition featuring art for sale to be held at the
MacRobert for five years, the official launch from 2-4pm will give art
lovers the chance to chat with several of the featured artists in
person.

However, even those who can’t make it on the day will still be able
to enjoy the exhibition daily to December 31, with all works on show
available for sale.

FORMER Bridge of Allan Primary School pupil Mark Holden is heading "home" to take part in an art exhibition in the village.

Mark now lives in Fife, but samples of his work will be on display at
the private Ealain Gallery from November 16-18 at the home of gallery
owners June and Cameron McCann.

The McCanns host exhibitions around the country from hotels to retail
outlets to the corporate markets but always host two open weekends at
their Bridge of Allan home in winter and summer.

The winter exhibition, featuring work by Mark Holden, Pam Carter, Ricky
Wiatrek and Alan Anderson, is previewed on Friday, November 16 from
7.30-9.30pm with open viewing taking place on Saturday and Sunday from
11am-5pm.
A percentage of all sales will go to BBC's Children in Need.

Mark lived as a youngster in Westerlea Drive in Bridge of Allan, and is
a former pupil of Bridge of Allan Primary and Wallace High School.

He was greatly influenced by his then high school art teacher Mr Dixon,
and is delighted to be exhibiting back home for the first time. He has
made contact with his teacher and is hoping to meet up with him at the
opening preview.

Ealain's June McCann said: "Mark had not been in Bridge of Allan since
he left many years ago, until we approached him about exhibiting with
the gallery. This has brought back many memories from his childhood.

"He was recently the chosen artist for the McMillan Cancer charity art
show in Glasgow, where his donated painting raised more than £7000 in
their raffle."

For further information on the winter exhibition contact June McCann on

EALAIN IS A relatively new company, having started trading in May 2006,

taking its name from the gaelic word for art. Its owner June McCann
feels this fits well with her gaelic speaking family connections and
the Scottish Contemporary Art that she exhibits from her Bridge of
Allan home and takes to events around the country.
Twice a year, in May and November, June opens up her home and turns it
into a gallery exhibiting up to 100 fantastic paintings, ranging very
much in size, style and price. The Home Gallery has something to suit
all tastes as Ealain represents a wide range of artists, from some of
Scotland's top artists to some straight out of art school.

June says: "Exhibiting at home are my favourite shows, where we can
show the art in a homely relaxed atmosphere, where the whole family can
take part in.

"Having a young family myself I feel the need to make the viewing and
buying of art fun and take away the staid stuffiness that can on
occasions prevail in the more traditional gallery"

Ealain also actively involved in hosting art events at a wide range of venues across Scotland"

June explains: "We are very pleased to have trebled our events in our
first year of trading. We bring art to the people by arranging events
around the country at locations such as the Gleneagles Hotel, the
Turnberry Westin Resort and the Barclays Scottish open at Loch Lomond
Golf Club to name just a few. These have resulted in great reiews and
repeat bookings for next year.

In November Ealain Events returns to "The House of Beauly" for its Christmas exhibition which will run for seven weeks.

June adds: "We are very pleased to have a permanent exhibition starting
at Inverness airport on the 9th of November. This will run as two man
shows changing approximately every eight weeks".
